Huskies Use Quick Air Strikes in Playoff Win
Owatonna's offense went to the air for some quick strike attacks in their 42-0 section semifinal win over Rochester John Marshall Saturday night at OHS. The Huskies converted on a pair of one-play drives that consisted of Brayden Truelson touchdown passes. They completed their scoring on a zero-play drive as defensive lineman Ethan Rohman returned an interception for a fourth-quarter TD.
OHS will host Century High School Friday, November 1 in the Section 1-5A championship game at 7 pm with coverage on AM 1390 KRFO and the free downloadable KRFO app. The Huskies drilled the Panthers 44-7 in the season opener.
On Saturday, Truelson threw four touchdown passes. The Huskies grabbed a 7-0 lead on a Truelson-to-Payton Beyer connection with under two-and-a-half minutes left in the opening stanza. Then Truelson hit Matt Williams to open a drive from their own 45-yard line for a 55-yard score and 14-0 lead.
With about four minutes left in the half, Tanner Hall completed an 8-play, 35-yard drive with a two-yard run for a 21-0 halftime lead.
The Huskies added to their lead with an early third-quarter scoring strike to Ethan Walter from 41 yards to complete a three-play drive for a 28-0 lead. After a Rockets' turnover, Truelson went to Walter again on first down for a 40-yard TD.
Rohman completed the scoring with his second interception of the season, taking this one on a short 5-yard pick-six return.
Owatonna held the Rockets to just over 200 total yards of offense. The Huskies threw for nearly 250 yards, completing 14-of-19 passes. Hall rushed for about 70 of the Huskies 90 yards on the ground.
OHS (9-0) is seeking its fourth straight section championship. Owatonna has won the last two Class 5A state titles.
