Summer is here. Summer weather should follow shortly. So grab your golf clubs and get signed up for these great golf events coming up in Steele County. A couple of them will even get you out of the office on a workday for a really good cause.

The Ken Bey Football Classic to benefit the Owatonna High School football team frequently fills up. Alumni and football supporters are invited to play in the 18th annual event at Brooktree Golf Course on Saturday, July 13.

Contact Marc Wiese on tournament openings at 507-456-1547. Day-of sign-in begins at 9:30 am with tee time of 11 am. Non-playing spouses and friends are welcome to the lunch following the tournament. Owatonna High School football coach Jeff Williams will mingle with participants and likely field many questions about how the two-time defending state champion Huskies will be this fall.

The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing is Thursday, August 1 at the Owatonna Country Club. As the chamber website says, "This popular golf event is the perfect playing field for networking, marketing and a break from the daily grind!" Go here for more details and to get signed up. You will likely run into former KRFO sale executive Brad Fischer who now works for chamber. Fischer will continue to broadcast OHS football games, so feel free to ask him how the Huskies will do this coming season as well.

The longtime running Owatonna City Open is at Brooktree and the Owatonna Country Club on August 3-4. For a very reasonable cost golfers can play both of Owatonna's courses. The tournament is divided into flights in order to play with golfers of similar skill level. Stop at either course to pick up a registration form.

Support Owatonna's Young Life program at their 41st annual golf outing on Friday, August 16 at Owatonna Country Club with a 9 am tee off. Register by July 15 to guarantee yourself some Young Life swag. A taco bar will follow the event with a chance to hear from OHS Young Life students. The tournament falls during Steele County Fair week, but there will still be plenty of mini-donuts waiting for you when you get to the fairgrounds.
