A pair of Triton basketball teammates have surpassed another set of Cobra teammates to take over the all-time school lead in career points and assists. Sydney Gilliland is now the school's all-time assists leader. Kendra Petersohn is the all-time leader in career points. They moved past former teammates Colton Thiemann (assists) and Logan Spitzack (1,439 points) this season.

The achievements happened close together but the players wanted to share the spotlight of recognition. Triton coach Melissa Young said, "Both of them are team players as you can tell from the way they wanted to celebrate it."

Regarding Petersohn, Young said, "She's been in the gym probably since she's been a little girl...Even shooting in the driveway against her two younger brothers. She just has a knack for knowing how to score. She scores well inside and outside. She's working on her defense and rebounding and I think she's going to be a good Gustavus basketball player next year, a very, very good Gustie."

On Gilliland, Young commented, "She sees the court better than almost any point guard I've ever coached, super unselfish. I have to tell her at least two or three times a game to shoot first, pass second...A lot of our team does so well offensively because she just knows where to put the ball."

Gilliland has also reached 1,000 career points since celebrating her assists milestone.

Young says the former record holders have been very gracious. Thiemann was in attendance when his assists record was broken. Spitzack sent a message and his parents were keeping score in the Cobras book the night his mark fell.

The Cobras are the No. 9 seed for the Section 1AA tournament and play at No. 8 seed Plainview-Elgin-Millville Thursday, February 20. The winner advances to the Mayo Civic Arena on Monday, February 24 to face top-seed Rochester Lourdes, No. 16 Cannon Falls, or No. 17 seed Caledonia.

The concept that "girls rule" is felt across the KRFO-listening area. Medford's Emma Kniefel, who will be a teammate of Petersohn's at Gustavus, set the Tigers' all-time scoring record earlier this season. Sydney Schultz is Owatonna's all-time points leader. Carlie Wagner is NRHEG's leader in all-time career points.
