The Faribault Area Community Band has decided to go forward with their portion of a proposed dedication of the Rice County Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Rice County Courthouse in Faribault.  A dedication for the completed Memorial has been postponed until construction has been completed on Highway 60 in Faribault which runs right by the Memorial.

Because the Faribault Area Community Band has been practicing their portion of the program for months they have decided to do their portion of the program in honor of Armed Forces Day as a tribute to one of their longstanding members and the Co-Chair of the Veterans Memorial Project Lloyd Grandprey.

Grandprey was also a past Commander of American Legion Post 43.  He helped choose the 5 patriotic songs that will be played during the tribute.  Community Band members will be joined by Memorial Co-Chair Richard Cook on Thursday's KDHL AM Minnesota program at 9:30 a.m.

We are scheduled to have with us from the Faribault Area Community Band:

  • Jane Egerdahl- Band Facilitator
  • Kris Paulson
  • Marshall Hanson
  • Sigurd Nelson
  • Gene Chase- former band teacher at Morristown Lutheran School

The event honoring Grandprey for Armed Forces Day 2019 is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on May 18 with a short program including:

  • Invocation by Father Henry Doyle
  • Patriotic music provided by Faribault Area Community Band
  • Words from Veterans Memorial Co-Chair Richard Cook concerning history of the Memorial project
  • Colour Guard Detachment

In the event of rain the program will be held at the Congregational Church Parish Hall (south of the courthouse.)  Some seating is available or bring a chair.  Refreshments available following event.
