According to a press release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office, on May 6, 2019, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Scott County Dispatch was notified of a dog that was located with apparent gunshot wounds in a ditch near the 27000 block of Church Avenue in Belle Plaine Township located in Southern Scott County.

Upon arrival, the responding deputy located a male German Shepard with multiple apparent gunshot wounds. The dog died due to the injuries sustained after being shot on Tuesday afternoon. Fortunately for law enforcement, they have something to go off of in locating a person or persons of interest.

The release states that a "neighbor reported seeing a vehicle enter the property, hearing gunshots, and seeing the vehicle leave the property."  The vehicle was described as "a late 2000s gray pickup truck with a slightly lifted body, “knobby” tires, and red circles around hub caps."

Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen stated in the release that law enforcement was “hopeful that, with the public’s help, somebody will come forward with information that can help us locate the person who did this.”

You can see photos of the dog in Fox 9's coverage of the story.
