Does Your Child Need A Little Help Getting Into College?
Dani Heiny the Chief Diversity Officer of Riverland College was our guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town. One of the topics discussed was the Be Your Best Summer Academy offered at Riverland's Austin campus. This free program is offered to students from age 16-22 who may be a bit behind in skills in primarily Math and English needed for college.
This is the 13th year for this academy. Classes begin June 10 and run through August 2. Classes run Monday through Thursday from 8:30-3PM. Students are given assessment tests to begin the program to find out what level they are at in Math and English. Before the conclusion of the term the students are reassessed. Over 300 students have taken part in this program with around 92% of the students showing the improvement needed to get into college. The course also includes activities and field trips and everything is free including meals.
