The Dodge County Wildcats dominated possession time with in Wednesday's Section 1AA quarterfinals in Kasson, but Owatonna's Asia Buryska played an amazing game to keep the Huskies in it to the end in a 2-0 loss. DC out shot OHS 45-6.

The Wildcats advance to the semifinals at Lakeville North Saturday, February 9 at 7 pm. The winner moves to the finals at Four Seasons in Owatonna on Valentine's Day.

From the opening face off Wednesday, Dodge County spent most of the time in the Huskies' defensive zone. When Owatonna managed to get the puck across the their own blue line, the Wildcats frequently tossed it right back in. Owatonna's defensemen and forwards did their best to limit the Wildcats' close chances and Buryska made numerous great saves.

Owatonna had a few good scoring chances, a couple of which didn't end up as a shot on goal. Sydney Hunst had a couple of decent opportunities in the first period and was part of a two-on-one in the second period but didn't get off the shot while being closely back checked. Maylynn Prokopec had a nice shot from the top of the slot in the middle period. Chloe Schmidt chopped a puck toward goal for a good scoring chance as well.

The game was almost a carbon copy of a 3-0 Dodge County win November 30 when the Wildcats out shot Owatonna 43-6 and added an empty net goal late. On Tuesday, Kiley Friedrichs of the Huskies blocked a couple of DC shots with OHS playing without their goalie in the closing minutes.

Smallbrock scored her 12th goal of the season at 5:26 of the second period with the assist from Natalie Ahern. Schubert notched her fourth on a rising shot from the blue line at 2:45 of the third with Smallbrock assisting. Sky Hughes got her sixth shutout of the season. OHS was 0-for-1 on the power play. The Huskies did not take a penalty.

Two seniors, Friedrichs and Prokopec, will graduate off the Huskies' roster. Owatonna (11-11-3) had their 11th straight season with at least a .500 record.

Dodge County (12-12-2) will face the Panthers (16-9-2) at Ames Arena in Lakeville Saturday night. North beat Century 13-2 Wednesday. In the other quarterfinals, Farmington blanked John Marshall 11-0 and defending section champ Lakeville South eliminated Big Nine champ Northfield 3-1.
