Last year the first Coyotes Fur Cancer fundraiser brought in around $17,000 in the fight against cancer. The second annual edition will be this Saturday, January 5. Hunters are invited to bring in their hunt and the pelts are then sold with proceeds going to the Blooming Prairie Cancer Group. There will be a group photo in the back parking-lot of the Cue Company for hunters and their kill.

Non-hunters and the general public are invited to attend the Chili and Soup Feed which starts at 6PM that night at the Cue Company in Blooming Prairie. Tickets are $20. There will also be a raffle and silent auction. Prizes include guns, archery equipment, fur mittens and more.

The coyote population has been on the increase in Southern Minnesota the last 20 years or so. While they tend to be loners, they are known to kill and consume cats, small dogs and sheep.I've spotted a coyote in our yard twice over the last decade or so. Most nights I can hear them howling away in the woods. Our dogs then join in a duet responding to the coyote's howling. Makes for a good nights sleep, yah sure.
