Last month's Pigskin and Pork fundraiser was a good one for Cash Wise Foods of Owatonna and the Youth 1st program. Cash Wise made a check presentation in support of the team awards program through Youth 1st of $2,525.

Store director Brian Elwer said, "Cash Wise Owatonna is extremely happy to partner with a great organization like Youth 1st. The work that Mark and his group are doing is something that is needed. As a fomer athlete and official, I have seen first hand how much unnecessary abuse officials take."

Mark Arjes of Youth 1st said, "We are placing emphasis on how you play the game, which is ultimately more important than if you win or lose." Youth 1st works with officials during the youth sports season and recognizes teams, and their coaches and parents, for good sportsmanship. Teams that earn awards get the chance to attend Twins' games at Target Field, Timberwolves' games at Target Center and Maverick games at Minnesota State University in Mankato, which some will have the chance to do Saturday October 8.

Members of the Steele County Blades junior hockey team assisted with serving and delivering meals, along with the staff of Cash Wise and Youth 1st.
