Calling All Steele County Swedes.
Actually anyone is welcome to join in. The Steele County Historical Society is hosting a bus trip to the Minneapolis American Swedish Institute on June 28. The Institute recently opened a display of Viking artifacts from Sweden. Your tour will include a Swedish Smorgasbord luncheon along with a stop at the Norway House and Mindekircken which is the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church.
The tour will depart from the History Center at 8:30am on the 28th and return to Owatonna around 4:30pm. The cost is $75 for SCHS members and $85 for non-members. Remember this includes the Smorgasbord! You need to make your reservations and payment by June 15. The trip is limited to 55 people.
Here's some Swedish trivia you probably didn't know. If it ever warms up, you might finally turn on your oscillating fan to cool you off. We have Swedish born Charles August Eck to thank for that invention. He introduced in 1904 at his factory in New Jersey. He later returned to his native Sweden and became quite an electrical manufacturing giant.
