The Owatonna Police Department reports the arrest of a man after a robbery of the US Bank in downtown Owatonna Tuesday afternoon. Thirty-three-year-old Matthew Dahl was apprehended at the Steele County Fairgrounds less than two hours after the bank heist.

Dahl, with a last known address in Faribault, was in custody Tuesday night awaiting formal charges. The press release from the police department states that officers responded to reports of a robbery at US Bank at 132 West Broadway at 2:11 pm.

A lone white male entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money and referring to a gun, though it was never seen. The teller provided the money and the suspect fled the scene. Police distributed surveillance photos to Owatonna officers and officials statewide.

An Owatonna officer identified the suspect at the fairgrounds and he was apprehended without incident at 3:52 pm Tuesday, June 12. The investigation continues by the Owatonna Police Department and the FBI.

Local police were assisted by the Steele County Sheriff's Office, Rice County Sheriff's Office, Faribault Police and the FBI.
