Blooming Prairie, NRHEG Open Volleyball Playoffs at Home Monday
The high school volleyball playoffs begin Monday, October 22 for Blooming Prairie and NRHEG. Owatonna plays Wednesday, while Medford and Triton wait until Thursday for their first post-season match.
The Awesome Blossoms are the sixth-seed in Section 1A-West Subsection and will host No. 11 seed Southland at 7:30 pm Monday. Blooming Prairie just swept the Rebels 3-0 on October 1. The winner goes to No. 3 seed Bethlehem Academy Thursday, October 25.
Medford is the top seed in the subsection and awaits the winner of No. 8 Lyle/Pacelli and No. 9 Christian Life Academy, who meet Monday. Tigers coach Missy Underdahl said on Saturday's KRFO Coaches Show that its exciting to be the top seed, but that it also adds a little pressure. She said the team is excited for the opportunity. Medford will host a match on Thursday.
The other first-round match is No. 12 Glenville-Emmons at No. 5 Goodhue. The winner plays at No. 4 seed Hayfield. Semifinals are Saturday, October 27 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
NRHEG is the fifth seed and hosts Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman at 7 pm in New Richland Monday night in a Section 2A, South Subsection first-round match. The Panthers beat the Jaguars during the Blue Earth Area Tournament on October 6. The winner goes to No. 4 Mountain Lake/Comfrey on Thursday, October 25. WEM is the top-seed in the subsection.
Owatonna plays in the Section 1AAA tournament, starting Wednesday, October 24 with live play-by-play on KRFO AM 1390 and the KRFO app.
Triton is the sixth seed in the West Subsection of 1AA. The Cobras go to No. 3 Zumbrota-Mazeppa Thursday, October 25 for a 7 pm match. The Cobras lost to the Cougars 3-0 on October 2.
