Owatonna, Blooming Prairie Earn Top Seeds in Football Playoffs
Defending state 5A champion Owatonna has a first-round bye in the Section 1 playoffs. The Huskies (8-0) await the winner of Tuesday's game between Austin (2-6) and Mayo (5-3) in Rochester for a Saturday, October 27 semifinal in Owatonna. In the other bracket, John Marshall (2-6) opens at Northfield (5-3) with the winner going to Century (5-3) for the other semifinal.
Blooming Prairie (8-0) secured the top seed in Section 1A with a dominating win over Rushford-Peterson (6-2) on Wednesday. The Awesome Blossoms will host Kingsland (1-7) Tuesday. Fillmore Central (4-4) plays at Southland (4-4), Wabasha-Kellog (2-6) travels to Goodhue (7-1) and Hayfield (3-5) is at R-P in the other quarterfinals.
In Section 2AA No. 7 seed Medford (4-4) plays at No. 2 seed NRHEG (6-2) Tuesday. The other quarterfinals include LeSueur-Henderson (4-4) at Maple River (6-2), Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial (3-5) at St. Clair/Mankato Loyola (7-1) and Blue Earth Area (3-5) at top-seed WEM (7-1).
No. 6 seed Triton plays at No. 3 St. Charles Tuesday in Section 1AA action. Winona Cotter is at Chatfield and Kenyon-Wanamingo goes to Lewiston-Altura. Top-seed Caledonia has a first-round bye.
Winona (8-0) is the top seed in Section 1AAAA and has a first-round bye. The winner of Tuesday's Red Wing (0-8) at Albert Lea (1-7) will go to Winona for the semifinals. Faribault (2-6) will face Kasson-Mantorville (4-4) in the semifinals Saturday, October 27.
