Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash last week.

The criminal complaint filed in Mower County Court alleges 31-year-old Christopher Stewart was under the influence of a controlled substance when his pickup collided with a minivan at a rural intersection about a mile south of Austin last Thursday afternoon. He has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of 4th Degree DWI and driving after revocation.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Department says the crash claimed the life of 89-year-old William Regner occurred when the elderly man drove through a stop sign and collided with Stewart’s vehicle. He was taken into custody at the scene after deputies noticed signs of impairment and obtained a blood sample for testing. The results of those tests are still pending. Stewart’s conditional bail was set at $10,000 and he has been ordered back to court on May 23rd.
