Junior Jason Williamson is on the verge of moving into the top five among Owatonna High School all-time leading rushers. He was 14th overall entering the 2017 season with a career total of 1,677 yards, almost all of those as a sophomore though he did get a taste of varsity action as a freshman.

Unofficially, Williamson has 543 yards through the first four games of the season, giving him 2,220 for his career. He has passed Andy Kath, Sam Hylle, Chris Herzog, Jeff Goergen, Pat Bogen, Brandon Hagen, Joey Aul and Tyson Bramer on the career list to stand at sixth all-time.

Running backs coach Matt Skala, who is fourth on the all-time list, says, "His athleticism is pretty natural...But what people don't notice is he's really committed to playing at the next level. His pass protection is bar none...He knows all of what our offensive linemen know."

Williamson tied a school record with seven touchdowns in a game at Austin September 15. He rushed for five, caught a pass for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for another. That tied the record held by Hylle in 2015, also against Austin.

According to the Owatonna football record book Aaron Peterson holds the all-time mark of 3,580 yards.

  1. Aaron Peterson, 3,580 yards, played 2011-13
  2. Cory Urban, 3,422 yards, played 1997-99
  3. Collin Wencl, 2,863 yards, played 2007-10
  4. Matt Skala, 2,569 yards, played 1996-98
  5. Bruce Bates, 2,373 yards, played 1980-82

Owatonna quarterback Abe Havelka and receivers Noah Budach, Dalton Kubista and Alex Raichle are assaulting the OHS record books. Those numbers will covered in a future post.
