Tuberculosis Confirmed At Austin High School
The Minnesota News Network is reporting that officials have confirmed an active case of tuberculosis at the Austin High School.The individual is being treated and there is no further risk of exposure at the school. The Mower County Public Health has determined which students and staff have had significant exposure to tuberculosis and arranged screenings for those individuals.
Active TB most often affects the lungs but can involve other parts of the body. I actually had a great grandmother that lost part of an arm to TB. Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air. Usually close contact with someone who has TB is required for the disease to spread to others.
