Steele County Fair Drive Thru Food Fest: Ready. Set. Eat.
The scene shifted on the Steele County fairgrounds Friday from 4-H students with their animals to 15 food vendors that normally spend their week at the Steele County Free Fair. The drive thru food fest runs Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22 from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday, August 23 from 11 am to 6 pm.
There is no cost to attend and no tickets are necessary. Simply drive into the fairgrounds on Hartle Avenue off of 18th Street and you will directed on how to proceed. Maps and menus are provided. Money for the food and a plan to work off the calories are your responsibility.
I got in and out very quickly just before noon on Friday with a Goette's Pork Chop Sandwich with sides of beans and potato salad from stand #10. A quick stop at the Steele County American Dairy Association malt stand at stop #15 to grab a malt for Rich back at the station and I was all set.
Fair board officials are prepared for a big turnout with several lanes to queue up vehicles for the one-way traffic through the fairgrounds. Numerous board members and other volunteers are stationed along the way to help with traffic control. You must stay in your car during the drive thru and walk ups are not allowed.
