2. NRHEG softball pitcher Sophie Stork tossed a perfect game in a thrilling 1-0 win over USC. Stork struck out 13 in seven innings. The Panthers won on a two-out, walk-off as Stork raced home from third on an infield play where the Rebels shortstop had trouble fielding a ball.
Panthers coach Wendy Schultz explained how the game ended, "With 2 outs, a full count, and runners on second and third, Preslie Nielsen hit a grounder to the shortstop who had trouble handling it which allowed Sophie Stork to score and Preslie to be safe at first base."
"Defensively we didn’t have to make many plays, but Isabel Stadheim made a big catch in left field. Faith Nielsen made a couple of good plays to throw runners out at first base," Schultz said.
3. The Medford softball squad engineered a big seventh-inning comeback but lost 6-5 to Kenyon-Wanamingo in eight innings. The Knights scored five runs in the third inning, three of them were unearned. The Tigers plated two in the sixth and pushed in three in the seventh to force an extra inning.
