Season Ends for Medford, Blooming Prairie Basketball
The Medford and Blooming Prairie boys' basketball teams each fell behind early in the section playoff games Tuesday and could not climb out of the hole, bringing their seasons to an end. Medford lost at St. Peter 90-35. Blooming Prairie fell to Rushford-Peterson 56-33 at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in Rochester.
The Tigers were plagued by cold shooting and turnovers early against the Saints, who were red-hot shooting threes and collected multiple offensive rebounds. Seniors on the Medford roster include Alex Gengler, Cole Volkman, Bryce McCarty, Ben Sutcliffe and Brody Berg. St. Peter advances to play Maple River at 7:45PM Thursday at Mankato East High School. Top-seed and defending section champ NRHEG meets Blue Earth Area at 6PM in the other Section 2AA south subsection semifinal on Kat Kountry 105FM and the Kat Kountry 105 app.
Blooming Prairie coach Nate Piller said, "We got behind early and that's a tough spot against Rushford-Peterson. They don't give you opportunities to really close the gap. It's hard to find flaws against them." Piller thinks the Blossoms were a little overwhelmed by the venue and the reputation of the Trojans. He added, "We gave good effort but unfortunately, didn't play our best basketball." BP ends the season at 13-11. Seniors on the Blooming Prairie roster include Max Romeo, Jake Ressler, Cameron Kubista, Cory Wagaman, Brad Staska and Jeremy Hocking.
Top-seed Rushford-Peterson plays No. 5 Kingsland Saturday in the Section 1A semifinals. The other quarterfinals are Wednesday with No. 2 Spring Grove against No. 10 Goodhue and No. 3 Wabasha-Kellog playing No. 11 Lyle/Pacelli.
