The Minnesota Department of Transportation will host a pair of public information meetings on Monday, March 30, to discuss Interstate 35 bridge replacement and Highway 14 expansion projects for this summer.

The I-35 public meeting is 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, at the MnDOT office, 1010 21st Ave. N.W., Owatonna. Bridge replacement work on the northbound lanes through Owatonna is scheduled to begin in early May and continue through this October. The southbound bridges were replaced last summer. Work will include pavement replacement from Hoffman Drive to south of Lemond Road.

The Highway 14 expansion meeting will be 7-8 p.m., also on Monday, at the Owatonna MnDOT office. Road work is scheduled to begin May 4 and continue through this September.

The prime contractor for both of these projects is the Mathiowetz Construction Co.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is taking place in March to promote safe driving through construction zones. The victims of work zone crashes are usually the drivers and passengers of vehicles rather than the highway workers. During the 2013 road construction season, 579 died in work zone crashes across the country.
