The Owatonna High School wrestlers open their season November 28 at the Faribault individual tournament.

The Huskies bring back some state meet qualifiers and have good numbers through the program. Coach Cliff Casteel says they don't have depth throughout the lineup however, saying they are a little short of bigger guys. Captains for 2015-16 include seniors Austin Abbas and Blake Westphal and juniors Goy Tut and Brandon Moen.

Abbas qualified for state last season, his first season out for wrestling. Casteel says the Huskies have a few athletes new to the sport. At the same time a number of wrestlers compete nearly year-round.

Moen was a third-place finisher at state last season. The Huskies also bring back state champion Peyton Robb.

The Huskies are No. 7AAA ranked and have a number of ranked individuals. Defending section champ Farmington is ranked fifth. Casteel also looks at Lakeville South and Faribault as Section 1AAA contenders. Last season's runner-up Hastings was moved to a different section.

Owatonna opens at the Faribault individual tournament Saturday, November 28. They host Rochester Mayo on Thursday, December 3. Then travel to Farmington for a triangular with Hastings on Friday, December 4.
