Owatonna Sweeps Mayo in Playoff Soccer, but Loses in Girls Tennis Section Final
Owatonna beat Rochester Mayo in two of the three postseason match-ups Tuesday. Huskies soccer scored section quarterfinal wins. Mayo girls tennis beat OHS for the section title.
The OHS girls tennis team began the day with a 4-3 victory over Lakeville North in the Section 1AA semifinals. Rochester Mayo beat Owatonna in the title match 6-1. Section 1AA girls tennis individual play begins Thursday.
Owatonna soccer hosted the Spartans in a boys-girls playoff doubleheader at Lincoln Complex. OHS won the boys game 4-1 and the girls game 1-0. The two Huskies teams go to Lakeville North on Thursday for the Section 1AA semifinals. The girls play at 5PM with the boys to follow at 7PM.
In Tuesday's action, Nate Smith had a hat trick in the 4-1 win. It was the Huskies' fourth straight victory. Zach Kraus scored the other goal. Daniel Keller moved to second all-time in career assists in Owatonna soccer history on Kraus' goal. The Huskies outshot the Spartans 10-5.
The girls game was scoreless until Ashley Green ended a flurry in front of the Mayo net with the only goal of the game in the Huskies' 1-0 win. Britta Gantert made several tremendous saves in the first half. Mayo outshot OHS 8-3.
Owatonna's volleyball team won their senior night event 3-0 over Austin at the Medford gym. Match scores were 25-14, 26-14, 25-11.
