Owatonna School Board Offers Free Activity Passes to Senior Citizens
The Owatonna School Board made a move this week that should get applause from all ages. The board voted to offer free activity passes to senior citizens 62 and older. Those interested in taking advantage of the pass should stop by the activities office in the high school. In the agenda for Monday's meeting, the background of the proposal states, "The school board and district leadership previously discussed offering free activity passes to senior citizens, but the topic had not yet moved to an action item. At this time, the school board is asked to consider authorizing the district to offer senior citizens activity passes free of charge."
The original plan was to charge $40 for senior citizens. Activity passes are good for admission to all regular season home athletic events and fine arts performances. There is still admission charged for section playoff action. The Owatonna football Twitter account @huskiesfootball called it a "#classymove."
For a relatively small cost to the district in lost revenue from those sales, the school board is making a great move in goodwill by making it even easier for senior citizens to attend high school sporting events. They might even spend a little extra at the concession stand now and help out those booster groups.
Activity passes are $40 for students, K through 12th grade. For an individual adult the cost is $90 and for a husband and wife it is $140. For an additional $5 per contest, fans can purchase reserve seats for football.
