Owatonna Boys Soccer Plays to a Draw with Lakeville North
The Owatonna boys soccer team is yet to lose, or win, a game this season after their first week of action. Two ties against strong South Suburban teams can leave them feeling good about the start of the campaign for the defending section champs.
After a 1-1 tie with Farmington on Thursday, the Huskies had a similar result Saturday in the rain at the Lincoln Soccer Complex with a 1-1 draw against Lakeville North. Like Thursday, Owatonna struck first, netting a goal by Spencer Glynn in the 11th minute of the contest. With about seven minutes left, the Huskies experienced some deja vu as North scored to even the match up. Two nights before, Farmington tied the game in the closing minute of regulation.
Owatonna nearly ended Saturday's game in the closing seconds of the second half with a couple of good scoring chances. A North player received his second yellow card with time running out when he attempted to disrupt the ball placement for the Huskies on a free kick. That left the Panthers to play a man short in overtime.
The Huskies generated a fantastic scoring chance late in the second overtime when Juan Maya stole a ball and made a great give-and-go pass to Nate Smith who returned the ball, but Maya's shot went high.
Glynn left the game with an ankle injury and was using crutches when he returned to the field to watch the girls' game. Lakeville North out shot the Owatonna boys 8-7. The Huskies (0-0-2) play at Mankato West on Thursday, August 31.
