Owatonna American Legion Baseball Team Reaches Home Stretch of Season
Owatonna's Post 77 American Legion baseball team wraps up its regular season in the next few days with a series of games at Fuller Field at Dartts Park.
Owatonna entertains Faribault at 7PM Tuesday, July 11, with play-by-play coverage on KRFO AM 1390 and RadioPup. Post 77 is 8-6 overall this summer after going 2-3 at the 40th annual Gopher Classic in the Twin Cities.
After dropping a high-scoring 12-8 decision to Sioux Falls West on Friday, Post 77 clobbered West St. Paul 11-1 and Hopkins 17-1. Sunday they lost a pair of exciting games. Omaha Burke edged Owatonna 1-0 and Nisswa doubled up the local nine 6-3.
Owatonna is 6-2 in district games and would seem to have a first-round playoff bye wrapped up. Post 77 hosts the Rochester Redhawks on Thursday in a 5PM doubleheader, and closes the regular season Saturday at 12PM against the Rochester Eagles. Austin leads the district standings at 8-0.
Five teams get a first-round bye in the 11-team district. The other six will square off for a spot in the double-elimination tournament. After high seed games for the first two days, the tournament will be held at Fuller Field in Owatonna.
