Minnesota Adds More Burning Restrictions for Cabin Country

This drought has been wreaking havoc on the whole state of Minnesota- at least most of it.  Seems that the only area that has been getting any sort of consistent rainfall is the southern part of the state.

There have been burning restrictions for most of the Summer.  Now, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has activated a larger area of restrictions.  Seven more counties in Northern Minnesota have been included.

The Northern part of the state had been getting some consistent rain until recently.  So now, those counties have been included in the burning restriction.  According to pineandlakes.com those counties include the Eastern Portion of Roseau, Beltrami, Cook, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods and St. Louis.  All of the counties included in the restriction which does still include the counties that were already in a burning restriction, most of those are in Central Minnesota, have these guidelines:

• No campfires are allowed for dispersed, remote, or backcountry camping on all lands;
• Campfires are allowed only in an established fire ring associated with a home, cabin, campground, or resort;
• No fireworks may be ignited on any public or private land outside city limits (check with your municipality for any restrictions within city limits); and
• Burning permits will not be issued for brush or yard waste, nor will existing permits be activated.

We do have a firepit on our yard, but we have only used it one time this Summer.  That was early on.  Our lawn, like many others, is pretty crispy in some areas.  Even though it's not against the restrictions to have a fire in a firepit, it does seem a little risky.

So, if you have a cabin or plan to go camping in Northern Minnesota, just be aware of what the restrictions are, and plan accordingly.
