Medford Finishes 12th at Class A State Trap Shooting Championship
Medford and Blooming Prairie were among the Class A teams at Alexandria for the opening day of the state trap shooting championships on Monday.
Over nine days, nearly 7,500 shooters on over 300 high school teams will take part in the largest shooting event in the world, according to the Minnesota Clay Target League. Medford took 12th place out of 29 teams with a score of 442 out of a possible 500. Spring Grove won the Class A title with 483. Battle Lake was second at 470. Blooming Prairie shot 402.
Medford's top five shooters were Cole Volkmann at 92, Richard Iverson at 91, Ben Snyder with 88, Brandon Kern at 87 and Tristen Kern with 84.
Karson Vigeland led Blooming Prairie with 96, which was tied for 12th place overall on the day. The other counting scores were Zachary Sisler with 90, Boone Carlson with 88, Talen Kent with 72 and Luke Rennie and Morgan Anderson with 56.
Owatonna will shoot at Alexandria Friday. Triton shoots Saturday and NRHEG goes on Sunday. The top teams in each class will be invited to the Minnesota State High School League tournament June 24 in Prior Lake.
Individual qualifiers for the MSHSL-sanctioned event are based on regular season results. A pair of NRHEG shooters are among the top 100 shooters in the state and are invited to Prior Lake June 24. Collin Christenson averaged 24.2 per round of 25 and Zachary Eustice averaged 23.7.
