The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released their 2018 Annual Homelessness Survey. Nationally homelessness increased by .3%. On the other side of the coin, homelessness among veterans declined by 5.% with family homelessness dropping by 2.7%.

In Minnesota HUD reported a 5.5% percent decrease in homelessness in the state. They also report an 8% decline since 2010. HUD reports a decline of 343 or 53.3% among veterans being homeless in Minnesota. Nationally homelessness experienced by veterans has dropped nearly in half since 2010.One number that does buck the trend in the state is a 17.7% increase in chronic or long-term homelessness among individuals.

While there are signs of progressive and encouragement in the latest HUD report, there is still work to be done.
