Help Set a Cornhole World Record at the 2022 Iowa State Fair
The Iowa State Fair is right around the corner, and there are some new features at this year's event!
On the official Iowa State Fair website, there's a page titled 'What's New,' and it includes a list of the 'Top 11 Ways to Fair in 2022.' The very first item on the list is 'Record Setting Fun,' a way for Iowans to get in on a world record attempt! The page reads:
"Bags, bean bags or cornhole, name the game and bags will be thrown across the Grand Concourse in a grand display of Iowa sportsmanship Saturday, Aug. 20. In the spirit of Iowa State Fair competition, you can be part of the official Guinness World Records attempt for the largest cornhole tournament. Bags tournament sponsored by Floor & Decor."
To take part in the world record attempt on August 20th at 10 a.m., all you have to do is register a team using the Scoreholio App. At this point, a LOT more people are going to need to sign up to beat the world record, but there's still plenty of time!
If you're wondering who currently holds the record for Largest Cornhole Tournament, the Guinness World Records website says it's a group in San Diego, California. On June 13th of 2019, Ian Pyka & DPR Construction had 444 participants in their annual tournament, which raises money for local charities.
Fun fact! An Iowa group also holds a Guinness World Record in regards to cornhole. On August 29th of 2014, Team Fry and Team Gable played 26 hours, 12 minutes, and 44 seconds of cornhole at FRYFest in Coralville, setting the record for the Longest Marathon Playing Cornhole.
