Girls hockey playoffs begin Wednesday. Owatonna is the seventh seed and will play at Lakeville North, the defending section champion. Lakeville South is the top seed.

Section 1AA for girls hockey looks pretty strong:

  • Seven of the eight teams have a winning record
  • Two are conference champions (John Marshall and Lakeville South)
  • Four are ranked in the top 20 (JM, LS, Lakeville North and Dodge County)
  • Defending champ North has finished in the top four at state three straight years
The Huskies have won their last two games to finish above the .500 mark for the seventh consecutive season. Lakeville North has ended the season on a 12-game winning streak, including a season-ending victory over top seed Lakeville South on Saturday. Owatonna is averaging two goals per game and giving up three. North is scoring three per contest and holding opponents to one goal on average. North is back-stopped by Abby Cooper, a finalist for the Let's Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award.

1AA Quarterfinals, Wednesday, Feb. 4:

  • Owatonna (14-11) at No. 9 Lakeville North (20-4-1) on Kat Kountry 105FM
  • Rochester Century (14-11) at No. 16 Rochester JM (20-2-3)
  • Farmington (13-11-1) at No. 13 Dodge County (18-6-1)
  • Mayo (9-15-1) at No. 6 Lakeville South (20-4)

1A Quarterfinals, Wednesday, Feb. 4:

  • Albert Lea at No. 7 Red Wing
  • Austin at Faribault
  • Winona at Northfield
