Faribault Girls Tennis Welcomed to Big Nine
The Faribault girls tennis team was scheduled to play a triangular match today in Owatonna against the Huskies and Northfield Raiders. Evidently they got their match with Owatonna completed.
Falcons Head Coach Jeff Anderson sent results via email reporting the Huskies defeated his squad 6-1. The lone victory coming at number 4 singles where Rachel Bostwick picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Olivia McDermott.
Coach Anderson says despite #1 singles player Chau Truong falling to Sara Anderson of Owatonna Truong, "Played really well. They had some great rallies and it was fun to watch. Sara is a strong player." Anderson won 6-3, 6-0.
Rachel Bostwick remains undefeated thanks in part to her, "flat style of play and consistency. Her mix of flat short shots along with deeper topspin shots messed up her opponent today."
Faribault teamed up Abby Goodwin and Erica Johnsrud to play #1 doubles for the first time this season. Coach Anderson says, "Overall they played well but faced a strong Owatonna team in Caitlynne Bussert and Leah Tucker. Owatonna was quick to capitalize on any miss-steps by Erica and Abby." The Huskies won 6-3, 6-3.
I got the sense Coach Anderson was looking forward to a practice Wednesday before another scheduled Big 9 Conference triangular Thursday in Mankato against Mankato East and Winona.
The Cougars play Faribault at 9:00 a.m. The Falcons then play Winona 11:00 a.m. before the Winhawks tangle with Mankato East at 1:00 p.m.
