Following a scoreless first period the Faribault Falcons boys hockey team had a running time lead in a 7-1 win at the Faribault Ice Arena Saturday night.  The Falcons were very efficient on offense scoring on every third shot following the first period.  Senior Jake Dolter started in net and allowed just one power play goal with 6:04 to go in the game.  Sophomore Jack Knutson played between the pipes the rest of the game.

Faribault had 31 shots on goal.  Mayo 24 shots on net.    The first period was a bit sluggish with the Falcons outshooting the Spartans 10 to 4.  Both teams had 12 shots in the second period.  Faribault tallied 9 and Mayo 8 shots in the final period.

The Falcons had one power play goal in 5 attempts and Rochester Mayo was 1 for 4 on the power play.

Sophomore Keaton Ginter (3) opened the scoring 3:44 into the second period on an assist from sophomore Zach Slinger (6).  At 9:20 junior Jordan Nawrocki (10) connected for a power play goal with assists by seniors Noah Murphy (10) and Leighton Weasler (17). 10:37 Slinger (16) scored with assists by sophomore Grady Goodwin (6) and junior Kory Johnson (6).

In the third period Faribault junior Brody Pavel (6) scored at 7:39 assisted by Slinger.  12:35 Nawrocki (11) scored on a Pavel (10) assist.  13:47 the final goal for the Falcons was scored by junior Lucas Linneman (1) with assists by Johnson (7) and Goodwin (7).

Faribault junior Zach Siegert had a nasty looking tumble near the Mayo net in the second period and did not return to play

Rochester Mayo's only goal was scored by sophomore Javan Hodge (9) at 10:56 with assists to senior Will Weick (14) and sophomore Mark Olson (1).

Dolter had 18 saves and Knutson 5 for Faribault.   Dolter is now 6-1-1. Mayo junior Payton Mancuso had 24 saves and fell to 1-5-1.

Faribault is 5-2-2 in the Big Nine, 12-4-2 overall.  The Spartans are 2-7 in the conference, 4-13-1 overall.

A lot of Big Nine teams played non-conference games Saturday.

In another Section 1A impacted game Dodge County crushed Moose Lake Area 13-2.

 

The Falcons host Rochester Century Tuesday while Mayo plays Thursday at home against Austin.
