There's actually such a thing as a Seat Belt Challenge in Steele County. It's a competition where teams of students will move to each seat in a car and buckle up. The point is to show how quick and how easy it is to put a seat belt on. The teams will be competing for the Seat Belt Challenge trophy along with other prizes starting this week.

The challenge begins at Medford High School on Thursday, May 2 at 10am. The event will take place at the Owatonna High School on Tuesday, May 7 at 11:30am. Part of these challenges also include students conducting seat belt checks before school starts.

These events will help kick off the next Click it or Ticket campaign. Minnesota will have extra law enforcement on the roads beginning May 20 and running through June 2 looking for seat belt use and child restraint use.

In 2017, preliminary numbers indicate 75 unbelted motorists lost their lives on state roads.
