Two people are dead and nine were injured in an explosion and partial building collapse at Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday.

The school at 3100 West River Parkway is a private, Christian, pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade school. The school is on two campuses: a south campus with grades pre-K through eighth grade and a north campus with grades 9-12.

One person remains in critical condition and two others are in satisfactory condition. Six others were treated and released.

They dead were identified as Ruth Berg, 47, a receptionist at the school, and 81-year-old John Carlson, a janitor at the school.

According to KSTP, one of the injured was the school's assistant boys soccer coach, Bryan Duffey, who was had been listed as being in critical condition.

Minneapolis Fire Chief John Freutel said most of the damage was to the center portion of the building where the explosion occurred, triggering a two-story collapse. But there is other damage all over the building.

Contracted construction at the building is being named as the cause of the explosion.
