The 14th annual Owatonna chili cook-off was held Saturday at its new location, the Retrofit Company or the old Walmart building. The move left plenty of elbow room for the attendees to sample the 50 chili entries. There was also plenty of room for tables and adding a band to the event. The contest was held at Ritchie Brothers last year.

The event raises money for the Andrew Lawrance Memorial Scholarship Fund to remember and honor the son of Bill and Marie Lawrence who died from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car while on his bicycle in September 2003. Andrew was a student at St. Mary's School in Owatonna who was involved in several extracurricular activities and had many friends. The scholarship fund has assisted 47 students with a total of $47,000 in awards. Five scholarship recipients will be named during the Owatonna High School fine arts presentation in May. Applications are available at St. Mary's, OHS and St. Joseph's Church.

Patrons voted for the favorite chili in several categories including Grand Champion, Chef's Choice, People's Choice, Owatonna's Best Restaurant Chili and the Flame Award for the hottest chili.
