After closing out their season with a strong third place finish in the Big Nine Conference standings, the Owatonna High School girls tennis team is the Cash Wise Foods Team of the Week. Cash Wise Foods of Owatonna and Waseca will donate a $50 gift card to a charity in the district of the winning team each week during the 2019-2020 school year.

Huskies girls tennis battled through a tough regular season, playing top-ten ranked teams repeatedly. Owatonna lost a pair of close matches to No. 10 Lakeville North during the season and faces the Panthers again in the Section 1AA tournament Thursday, October 3.

OHS dropped a close 5-2 match against No. 7 Rochester Century. No. 5 rated Rochester Mayo won their 18th consecutive Big Nine title this fall. Owatonna also lost an early season match to Eden Prairie who spent part of the season in the top ten.

Three Huskies earned top three finishes in the individual Big Nine tournament. Sara Anderson and Megan Johnson finished second. Olivia Herzog took third place.

Seniors on the OHS roster according to the Minnesota State High School League website include Anderson, Nicole Skalicky, Liv Matejcek, Leah Tucker, Kat McDermott, Jade Hanson and Alexis Allen. Juniors include Johnson and Caitlynne Bussert. Alex Huemoeller, Lauren Thamert and Herzog are sophomores. Olivia McDermott is a freshman.

The section team semifinals and finals are October 8 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. Section individuals begin October 10.
