BP Football: Still Playing and Having Fun
The football season is a long grind. Hot, humid days in mid-August lead to bone-chilling conditions in a November game. This week the Blooming Prairie football team has spent an hour on a bus each way to practice at the Dundas dome to prepare for their state tournament game at US Bank Stadium Saturday, November 16.
Through it all, seniors Kaden Thomas and Colton Krell are thrilled to be playing as the Awesome Blossoms seek their first-ever appearance in the Prep Bowl. In 2018 they lost to BOLD in the state semifinals at The Bank. BP faces Ada-Borup at 11:30 am Saturday with coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM and on the free downloadable Kat Kountry 105 app. Pregame coverage will start at 10:30 am.
Thomas, the quarterback, says getting to US Bank Stadium last year helped inspire the desire to return there, "It was definitely pushing really hard to get back there again and play there again. Hopefully we have a better outcome than last year."
Thomas has plenty of options to move the ball down field quickly, "I have really fast receivers and they're big too." His line has protected him well, "They've been really good this year. I've been sacked a couple of times. I just trust them a lot and they do the job every week."
BP's semifinal opponent Ada-Borup is, "big and physical. Their line is really tough. So our line is going to have a challenge," said Thomas. [Hear the full interview below.]
Krell starts on the offensive and defensive lines says he's having a great time, "Yeah. It's a good time, a lot of work. It's a good time when you win games like this. You can get the younger kids in. Now we're going to the US Bank Stadium. It's exciting."
Krell says playing hard and for each other has carried the Blossoms this far, "Honestly, it's teamwork. I think we have synergy, I guess you could say. We've always worked together really well as a team. Do everything for the team. And none of us are selfish players. We've grown up playing football together." [Hear his full interview below]
Play-by-play announcer Jason Iacovino and color commentator Brennen Toquam will hit the airwaves and online at 10:30 am Saturday morning. Coach interviews and comments from former BP players Seth Peterson and Isaiah Toquam will be included.
