According to a television report on KIMT, the body of a person found in a burning vehicle in rural Owatonna in October is that of an Albert Lea man.

The report indicates the man was Herman Hernandez of Albert Lea, who was 64 years old. The incident began as a suspicious call responded to by the Steele County Sheriff's Office on the evening of Sunday, October 23. Deputies went to the 2000 block of 52nd Avenue Northwest in western rural Owatonna and found a vehicle on fire in a field.

After the fire was extinguished by the Owatonna Fire Department, the sheriff's deputies found a deceased man in the vehicle. The television report states the man was identified through DNA evidence and an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The cause of Hernandez's death remains under study by the state fire marshal, the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiners Office-Mayo Clinic and Steele County officials.
