Blooming Prairie Schools Closed on September 20th for Funeral
On September 7th, 8-year-old Emerson Harberts lost her life in a car accident on HWY 14 near Claremont. She was traveling to school in Blooming Prairie where she was a student, with her 12-year-old brother Jaxon, also a student, and her mother Rachel, a teacher with the Blooming Prairie School District. Rachel and Jaxon were taken to Rochester with life-threatening injuries, and Rachel passed away early Saturday morning due to those injuries.
The Blooming Prairie School District has decided that school will not be in session on Thursday, September 20th. The funeral services for Rachel and Emerson are planned for 11 am, in Rochester. The whole statement is:
The funeral service for Rachel and Emerson will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 20 in Rochester. Since the service is in the middle of the day and an hour away from our district, the administration with board consensus has decided that school will NOT be in session on Thursday. An overwhelming number of staff and students will be attending, which would make the school day non-productive. This may cause some minor hardship for some, but we need to allow our district to grieve in an appropriate manner and time frame. Thanks for your overwhelming support through these very tough days.
They are still planning to have all practices and activities on Thursday, however, if you have any questions, contact that particular coach. They have these posted on their Facebook page as well, which you can find here.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, students, friends of the Harberts family during this time.
