Minnesota Tops Yet Another National List
It doesn't come as much of a shock to us here, but a new survey shows that nobody is more giving than those of us here in Minnesota.
It's all the results of a new survey from the gang over at WalletHub, and it shows that on their list of the Most Charitable States for 2018, the Land of 10,000 Lakes is ranked at number-one.
As we head into the holiday season-- and season of giving-- WalletHub crunched the numbers and compared all 50 states in 18 differed categories of volunteering, giving, and other charitable behavior.
And Minnesota scored pretty well in most of those categories. In fact, we were ranked 2nd in 'Percentage of Population Who Donated Time' and 3rd in 'Volunteer Rate'.
But it was our performance overall that gave us a composite score of 69.14, which was tops in the country. Utah was second, followed by New York, Maryland and Connecticut. Our neighbor to the east, Wisconsin, was ranked 10th, while our southern neighbor, Iowa, was ranked 34th.
Overall, though, it paints a pretty positive picture when it comes to volunteering and giving. In fact, the survey said the U.S. as a whole is totally down with giving back. "The latest World Giving Index shows that Americans are among the world’s most generous people, ranking No. 4 out of 140 countries. U.S. donors in 2017 gave more than $410 billion to charity, with 70 percent of the funds coming directly from individuals, according to the National Philanthropic Trust," the WalletHub survey stated.
