A Cedar Rapids Area Restaurant is Totally Rebuilding After a Fire
Get ready for an upgrade!
Back on May 28th, we got word that Shuey's Restaurant & Lounge at 1158 Club Road NE in Cedar Rapids had suffered "substantial damage" because of an early morning fire. We don't know the full extent of the damage, but we do know that it was enough for the folks behind the restaurant to totally demolish the building and start fresh. The building was torn down on July 12th, and a post on the business' Facebook page read:
Just yesterday (July 26th), we got another update from Shuey's on Facebook, and this one shared very GOOD news. The restaurant is rebuilding and will be better than ever! The post shows a rendering of a brand new Shuey's, courtesy of Aspect Architecture:Design. Here's a sneak peek look at what the exterior of the building will look like, fenced-in patio included:
Jordan Caviness, one of the owners of Shuey's, told me that the team is in the beginning phases of construction, but that the "goal is to keep the same look and feel to the interior as the old Shuey's had." He added, "we will be adding some new features that we think everyone will be excited about. It’s been amazing to see the support from people in Shueyville and surrounding areas." It was also mentioned that the Shuey's staff members were offered positions at other restaurants while the place rebuilds, but they will be welcomed back when it opens!
As of right now, there's no word on when the new Shuey's will be complete, but Jordan told me that they hope to have a timeline in the next week or so. You can follow along with updates from the business' Facebook page HERE. We can't wait to check it out when it's done!
