3M Open Makes The Cut For Abbreviated PGA Tour Schedule

The PGA Tour made the announcement this morning that they are targeting a mid-June start-up of their tour. The abbreviated Fed-Ex Cup schedule includes Minnesota's 3M Open July 20-26 at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.

Part of the changes to the schedule were the movement of some of golf's biggest events to later in the year AFTER the Fed-Ex Cup championship is awarded. For instance, the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, and the Masters will be played technically during the 2020-2021 PGA Tour season at dates many will be unfamiliar with. You can see the whole schedule here.

September 14-20: U.S. Open, Winged Foot Golf Club, Mamaroneck, New York

September 21-27: Ryder Cup, Whistling Straits, Kohler, Wisconsin

November 9-15: Masters Tournament, Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia

According to the PGA Tour announcement regarding play resuming it's important to note that:

"At this time, the TOUR plans to resume play with the first four events closed to the general public but will continue to monitor the situation and follow the recommendations of local and state authorities in order to determine the most appropriate on-site access in each market. As such, the TOUR will continually review available COVID-19-related protocols that could be implemented at PGA TOUR events to ensure the health and well-being for all involved." - PGA Tour 

That statement means while the 3M Open will be held here in Minnesota, fans might not be able to attend depending on what local and state authorities have to say about COVID-19.

I am excited by this news, not only because I am a fan of golf, but that it means that some normalcy is beginning to emerge after weeks of discouraging news and cancellations of events.
