Young, Wolfe, Relay Advance to State Meet

Five Owatonna High School athletes qualified for the state high school track meet in four events after their performances at the Section 1AA meet at Lakeville South on Saturday. The state meet is June 6-7 at Klas Stadium at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Huskies junior Keenan Young qualified in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300 hurdles and as part of the 4x400 relay with sophomore Zach Stransky, senior Zach Barrett and junior Fanta Omot. OHS freshman Ava Wolfe made it to state in the 100-meter dash.

Young won the section title in the 300 hurdles and has the third fastest qualifying time in his heat at the state meet with 39.05 seconds. The top two from each of two heats plus the next five fastest times will advance to Saturday's finals. Young was the section runner-up in the 110 hurdles by three-thousands of a second. His time was 14.75 seconds. He has the third fastest time in his preliminary race on Friday. He needs a top-two finish or one of the next three fastest times to reach Saturday's finals.

Young ran in the Hamline Elite Meet in May. Huskies coach Kevin Stelter says that should allow him to feel a little more relaxed while participating at state for the first time.

The 4x400 finished second at the section meet by seven-tenths of a second behind Rochester Century. Owatonna's time of 3?25.95 was their best of the season.

Wolfe broke the time standard to make it to state with her 12.45-second running and sixth place finish at Lakeville. Twenty-five total runners qualified in the girls' 100.

Among the other top finishes for the Huskies were Barrett finishing third in the 300 hurdles, Colton Kamholz was third in the pole vault and Omot took seventh in the 800. Owatonna's 4x100 had their fastest time of the year and finished ninth.
