Wounded Waseca Officer’s Family to Benefit From GoFundMe Page
Waseca, MN (KROC-AM NEWS) - A GoFundMe page has been created to benefit a critically wounded Minnesota law officer and his family.
32-year-old Waseca Police Officer Arik Matson is being treated for a gunshot to his head at the North Memorial Medical Center. He was airlifted to the medical center in Robbinsdale Monday night shortly after he was gravely wounded while responding to a report of possible criminal activity in the quiet south-central Minnesota community Monday night.
Friends of the family established the online fundraiser to help his wife and their two daughters cover their expenses while Officer Matson remains hospitalized. The GoFundMe page, which has already brought in over $100,000, notes any support and prayers are greatly appreciated.
Officials say the suspect in the case, 37-year-old Tyler Janovsky of Waseca, suffered non-life threatening wounds when three officers on the call with Officer Matson opened fire after their colleague was wounded. Court records show he has a lengthy criminal history that includes a conviction for accessory to second-degree murder.
