Wisconsin Is Home To One Of The Country’s Most Haunted Places, And You Can Tour It
Ghost Hunts USA is offering a rare chance to investigate the Sheboygan County Asylum in Wisconsin for a limited time, with rare access few people get.
The asylum is shrouded in mystery, and is also one of the top places to investigate in the country. There is a "no trespassing" sign and the property is guarded. Added to that, there aren't many photos and video is not allowed to be captured on-site. Even with this level of secrecy, the property is maintained by its owners to allow groups to investigate without getting hurt - which is rare among haunted properties.
The building has a rich history of being haunted long before the investigations. According to EverybodyWiki, which I will say is not totally accurate - but is the only place showing any history and some information from the videos below, here is what I have put together.
The asylum was opened in June 1876, in Winooski, Wisconsin. The chronically insane and other undesirables lived there and there was a huge fire that killed everyone inside. The place was rebuilt with a larger building that was moved to a slightly new location.
The new place was called the county hospital but quickly became known as the asylum because it had too many people and many of them were, again, undesirable, and care was not the best. Another fire burned part of the building and killed the night watchman who discovered the fire.
The building got larger and larger until it housed 225 people, up from its original 25. It finally closed after the building fell apart and care was at a minimum. They demolished that building and made it a supermarket.
Later it became many things until again it became the Sheboygan County Comprehensive Health Care Center and was a nursing home for the elderly as well as housing the mentally ill and people with developmental disabilities. The military took it over and used it for cases that were not expected to make it.
In 1969, the center became an acute care facility for the mentally ill, and until 1975 it also offered alcohol and drug rehabilitation. In 1978 became a residential building for older people and people needing extra help. The place finally closed in 2002.
People have reported for years that they hear a little girl humming or singing a song. People say they have been touched, they hear slamming doors and things falling, sometimes whispers and screams.
None of them are in a particular area, they say it's everywhere. There are stories of seeing the night watchman, seeing people who have been burned. These things are reported in the tunnels, surgical centers, and morgue mostly.
So people pay to get in the building, but the exclusive all-access investigation is being offered by Ghost Hunts USA. For the $169 to investigate with Ghost Hunts USA, here is what you get:
