Well with the temperatures expected to hit near 60 degrees later this week in Southern Minnesota, it's safe to say spring is on the way. But if it weren't for the warming temps, how else do Minnesotans know that spring is coming? I saw on social media today that several Minnesota independent and chain-owned seasonal ice cream shops are open, or plan to open in the next week or two. That news right there, in the light of everything else going on in the world, is enough to put a smile on my face.

Conny's Creamy Cone, in Saint Paul along Dale Street North, opened up today, and by some of the pictures that accompanied the news on social media, the colder temps didn't keep several people away.

Closer to our area the Northfield Dairy Queen opened up last week, and just in time with the warming spring weather on the way.

One popular Southern Minnesota soft-serve location that we HAVE NOT seen give any indication when they will open up is the Blast Soft Serve in Owatonna, but we are still a little early as they opened up last year the third week in April.

On top of the opening seasonal spots in Minnesota, we also know it's spring, as the winter sports seasons are starting to wrap up, coming up this week the Minnesota Girls Basketball State Tournament will take place, followed by the Boys' State Tournament, and that generally signifies the last chance for....snow....here in Southern Minnesota, but the good news is that doesn't seem likely at this point.
