Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, Randolph Boys Basketball Advance
The Randolph Rockets and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers advanced in their respective playoff tournaments Monday. The Section 1A #2 seed Rockets cruised to a 78-40 win over Kingsland in the Rochester Mayo Civic Auditorium while the #1 seed South Subsection Bucs clobbered St. Clair 86-31 in Waterville.
The other game in the Mayo Civic Auditorium featured defending Section 1A Champion Rushford-Peterson playing against Grand Meadow. The Trojans are the #3 seed and the Super Larks the #6 seed. R-P scored a 71-45 win and will play Randolph Saturday night at 6:30 in the semifinals.
Carsyn Gunderson led Randolph to victory with 26 points, Joey Erickson added 17 points and 8 rebounds. The Rockets were focused, shooting approximately 57 percent from the field while Kingsland shot 19 percent. The Knights were 15 of 23 from the free throw line and Rockets 10 of 15. Kingsland finishes their season 17-11. Randolph is 25-2.
The other semifinal opponents will be determined Tuesday night when top seed Spring Grove plays #8 seed Houston at 6:00 p.m. and #4 seed Hayfield goes up against #5 seed Blooming Prairie at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. The winners play 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the other semifinal game. The title game is Thursday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Arena.
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown will play Thursday night at 6:00 at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial High School against #5 seed Nicollet. The Raiders edged United South Central in Wells 79-74. In the other Section 2A South Subsection contest Monday #2 seed Springfield dispatched Mankato Loyola 52-31 in Springfield.
Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey hosts Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC.
In the North Subsection Thursday night at St. Peter High School top seed BOLD faces #4 seed New Ulm Cathedral at 6:00 p.m. followed by #3 seed Mayer Lutheran and #2 seed Minnesota Valley Lutheran.
