A Waseca man was arrested recently stemming from a call concerning two males 'smoking something' in an apartment in Owatonna. 24-year-old Dak Ret was arrested and jailed after a search of a vehicle by Owatonna Police turned up some illegal substances and a stolen 9mm gun.

According to the Owatonna Police Department's Just The Facts from Friday, on November 19th a concerned citizen called Owatonna dispatch in regards to suspicious males at the Woodbridge Apartments. The suspicious males were "smoking something" that the reporting person was unsure of.

Officers were unable to locate the suspicious males in the apartment building but they did notice a car in the parking lot that been "reported to being involved in drug and prostitution activity."  Inside the vehicle were two men, and what Owatonna police described as "illegal controlled substances." A search of the vehicle then turned up a reportedly "fully loaded, stolen Taurus 9mm pistol."

Ret, according to online court records, was previously convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and convicted as an extended jurisdiction juvenile for committing 2nd Degree Aggravated Robbery in Steele County, which prohibits him from having a firearm. Ret has been charged with two felonies, Illegal Possession of Ammunition/a Firearm and 5th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance.

"A person who has been convicted of a crime of violence, as defined in section 624.712, subdivision 5, is not entitled to ship, transport, possess, or receive a firearm or ammunition for the remainder of the person's lifetime. "

 

Online jail records indicate that Ret is still being held in the Steele County Jail.
