Warm Up With Homemade Soup
Brr, it's cold outside. Old Man Winter has appeared and has brought the weather that makes me question why I still live in an area where the air hurts my face. I am not planning to move to a tropical island, however, this weekend a visit would be nice.
When it gets this cold, and it looks as though we will not see above zero until Tuesday, I go to my trusty recipes, and start looking at soups I can make. There is something about making a hot soup that calms me. I love chopping the vegetables by hand, making my own broth (with just a little help from bullion cubes), and of course, the smell of the soup simmering on the stove.
I do not always use a recipe, in fact, I like to add ingredients as I have them, and if they sound good. It is not a stretch to add cabbage to a good stew, but, if I don't have it, it's not a big deal. The only time I use a recipe is if I am making something new, or a cream style soup. Otherwise, I will look at a recipe for inspiration, but make it my own.
Nothing beats a hot bowl of soup on such a cold weekend, and I am going to be cooking up a batch. I will use allrecipes.com for inspiration, you can see some great recipes there.
