Teenage Suspect in Rochester Shooting Surrenders to Police
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester teenager accused of shooting his father in the leg surrendered to police this afternoon.
Earlier today, an arrest warrant was issued for 18-year-old Colby Cleveland, charging him with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault. Rochester police had been searching for him since last Friday night when officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Essex Park Apartments and found his 49-year-old father suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
The criminal complaint against Cleveland alleges the two family members were arguing over rent money and his father told him he went to be able to stay in their apartment if he did not help with the rent. Police say that led to a physical confrontation before the teenager left the residence.
The father told investigators he then went to the parking lot and found his son with a gun in his hand. The father's statement says the teenager shouted "I am going to kill you" several times before firing the gun twice. One of the bullets resulted in a non-life-threatening wound to the father's leg and the second hit a parked car.
